PENAMAAN PERSIAPAN PERNIKAHAN PADA BUDAYA JAWA DAN TIONGHOA DALAM FILM “BU TEJO SOWAN KE JAKARTA”

Abstract

This study aims to describe the naming and cultural meanings in Chinese wedding preparations including certain objects in “sangjit” and “tingjing”, the prohibitions in Chinese culture, as well as in Javanese culture including advice, hopes, and wedding-related prohibitions. The naming of objects in the “sangjit" and "tingjing" procession and the cultural meanings in Chinese culture are covered in this study. Furthermore, this study discusses the wedding-related prohibitions in Chinese culture and their cultural meanings. In addition, this study also discusses advice, hopes, and prohibitions in Javanese weddings along with the cultural meaning therein. Prior studies have not examined the naming of wedding preparations in Chinese-Javanese mixed marriages. Research data were presented in the form of dialogue between characters. Ten data were presented in this study, consisting of 3 data on wedding preparations in Chinese culture and 7 data on wedding preparations in Javanese culture. The method used in this study was qualitative descriptive, specifically using interview, listening, note-taking, and literature study techniques. Interviews were conducted with a man and a woman of native Chinese descent who had participated in the "sangjit" and "tingjing" processions to find the terms of wedding preparations in Chinese culture. The listening technique was used to listen to the dialogue between characters in the film "Bu Tejo Sowan Ke Jakarta" and the note-taking technique was used to record the characters’ utterances in the film "Bu Tejo Sowan Ke Jakarta" which were grouped into the naming of wedding preparations in Javanese and Chinese culture. Meanwhile, the literature study technique was used to answer the formulation of problems regarding the naming of wedding preparations in Javanese culture.
