This study aims to understand and describe efforts to maintain Tombulu language by Tombulu
language-speaking community in Woloan Raya Village. Through the use of ethnographic methods
with a qualitative approach, data obtained from observations, in-depth interviews and document
reviews, were analyzed using analysis according to Spradley, namely domain analysis, taxonomy,
components, and analysis of cultural themes. This study investigated the things. Firstly, the activities
carried out by the community members in an effort to maintain the Tombulu language are: (a)
Commemorating the founding day of Woloan village on August 8 by holding an event called
“Lumeos Um Banua Woloan” which means “celebrating the existence of Woloan Village since the
migration of the first Woloan people”; (b) Doing religious services and worships in the Tombulu
language on a regular basis once a month or once every two months on a scheduled basis through the
church program; (c) Village officials deliver announcements to the public via loudspeakers in
Tombulu language; (d) The government uses Tombulu language in meetings; (e) Village officials
deliver announcements at funerals or giving advice at wedding ceremonies in Tombulu language.
Secondly, those who play a very important role in maintaining Tombulu language in Kelurahan
Woloan Raya are the government and village officials, community leaders, and religious leaders.
Thirdly, the community's attitude towards the maintenance of Tombulu language is very positive.
They are still making efforts to use Tombulu language in their daily communication. It can be seen in
their efforts to provide reading books such as buying spiritual books such as the Bible, and story
books in Tombulu language.
